Paper One
Course: 600 Leadership Skills
Topic: Interview with Dr. Charles "Monty" Roessel, President of Diné College
A college or university needs to be led by a College President. I was interested in understanding what it takes to lead a college or university. Before I wrote this paper I was unaware of the entire process of leadership in a professional setting. I am thankful Dr. Roessel agreed to share his experiences and journey in higher education. I know there are various types of leadership approaches and each person is responsible for developing their choice of leadership. Dr. Roessel shared his preference of leadership, which was situational. I learned the most from this paper because I was able to hear from a College President about the accomplishments, challenges, successes, and set backs about leading a college or university. I was amazed about the all the experiences, learning, and opportunities involved in building or leading a college.

Paper Two
Course: CCHE 580 The Community College
Topic: Shared Governance during a Transition from a Community College to a 4-Year College: How are the Faculty Impacted?
I'm always interested in the topic of shared governance at higher education institutions. I was primarily drawn to the subject because of my role as Staff Association President at Diné College. I understand how students, faculty, staff, and administration need to communicate to create a strong sense of positive progression for learning and teaching. Faculty need to have a voice when major decisions are being made so they can adjust and prepare their teaching models and expectations. When faculty and administration work closely at a college or university, completion and graduation rates increase, ultimately creating a shared goal of student success.

Paper Three
Course: CCHE 620 Access and Opportunity in Higher Education
Topic: Creation of a Program for First-Generation Dual Credit Students
I oversee the Dual Credit Program at Diné College and I have a passion for helping students succeed and complete college with a degree or certificate. In this paper, I explored how first-generation students see their experiences at a college or university through a dual enrollment program. I learned it's important for students to build and create a sense of belonging academically and socially to succeed at completing a degree or certificate. First-generation students have a unique experience and it's important for them to feel comfortable at all levels of the college or university in order to complete their studies successfully.
